Beatrice Litt

What good fortune I had to study Italian with Beatrice! A native speaker, she was able to calibrate our lessons perfectly to my level. She was encouraging even while pushing me to try to master the finer points of Italian grammar, and she helped me become far more expressive in the language. I always looked forward to meeting with her, and I not only learned a great deal about la bella lingua italiana but also about Italian culture. I don’t think I could recommend a teacher more highly.

I started as a beginner Italian student with Beatrice over 12 years ago in Tampa. I wanted to be able to converse with cousins in Italy in person and via emails in between visits. I found her teaching methods of learning grammar in addition to conversation to be the best way to progress to higher levels. In addition to textbooks and workbooks, Beatrice shares many other tips and ways of learning using technology to continue studies on your own. After a few years of in-person classes, Beatrice moved to North Carolina. During these 12 years, I tried continuing my studies but did not find online courses without human interaction as beneficial. I was so happy to locate Beatrice after 12 years and have again resumed lessons over Zoom. She is very skilled at determining the current level of the student and how to progress from there.

Mi chiamo Bill Rivenbark, e sono un professore all’Università della Carolina del Nord. Circa dieci anni fa, ho iniziato ad andare in Italia ogni anno per lavoro. Naturalmente, mi sono reso conto d’avere bisogno d’imparare un po’ la lingua italiana. Dopo aver fatto due corsi d’italiano ero deluso con il mio progresso. Quindi, ho trovato Beatrice tramite un'amica per fare le lezioni private. Entro sei mesi, la mia capacità di parlare la lingua è aumentata notevolmente facendone una ogni venerdì mattina per un’ora e mezza. Dopo essere tornato in Italia, mi ricordo bene di aver fatto la mia prima chiacchierata nella lingua italiana. Anche se lei è una insegnante esigente, mi sentivo a mio agio durante ogni lezione. Allora, mi raccomando fate le lezioni attraverso Beatrice per studiare questa grande lingua!

I am delighted to share my summary of my learning experiences with Beatrice Litt as I hope to encourage others to enjoy the excitement and professionalism, she brings to learning the Italian Language. Beatrice is an accomplished instructor who has the special talent of both instructing a great knowledge of Italian grammar but incorporates the learning process with an important level of excitement, charm, and cultural enrichment. Her love for her native culture and language is perfectly comingled into her academic teaching style. While learning a new language at an older age (I won’t divulge how old) is usually a difficult task, Beatrice has made the experience totally enjoyable for me. Beatrice knows how to push her students to keep the academic level high and challenging but at the same time she incorporates all the warm, passionate, and cultural elements of her Italian heritage into her teaching style. I have been thrilled and delighted to be her student and I look forward to continuing the journey for years to come. Chapel Hill, North Carolina August 19, 2021
